Introducing the Desert Beetle, a creation by Monster Peppers that combines the size, flavor, and some heavy heat. 7 Pot Douglah and Moruga Scorpion cross. These peppers grow to an enormous size—so large they can engulf your entire hand when held. The Desert Beetle isn’t just about its size; it delivers a thrilling, satisfying experience from start to finish. Upon your first bite, you’ll experience a fleeting sweetness, but don’t get too comfortable—this sweetness quickly fades, giving way to the intense heat for which this pepper is known. The sweetness doesn’t lean to heavy toward floral or fruity notes as with other peppers; instead, it’s a simple, almost nearly neutral sweetness that prepares you for the fiery burn that follows. At least that what were ultimately been working towards. The heat builds steadily, delivering a rush of fire in your mouth that lingers bit after. If you manage to eat a whole pepper at once, expect a challenge; it’ll take a few chews to get it down, and the longer it stays in your mouth, the more it alters the flavor and heat experience. One of the Desert Beetle’s most striking features is its mustard variation. The pepper starts off deep green, but when exposed to direct sunlight, it undergoes a dramatic transformation, shifting to a vibrant mustard yellow. If grown in full shade, the pods will mature without this color change, remaining dark green or sometimes displaying a blend of green and mustard hues. For the most intense coloration, heavy sun exposure is key—this results in a bright, vivid mustard yellow with remarkable depth. If only parts of the pod receive direct sunlight, you may see a gradient of colors, ranging from deep green to mustard to bright yellow, creating a stunning, multi-toned effect. Monster Peppers has been carefully isolating and developing this pepper since its initial cross in 2016, with the first results observed in 2017. Over the years, we’ve worked to perfect its consistency and flavor profile.
